| Carol is con and Dave is pro
This is part of a chapter from our English book, and we got homework to think what we will discuss about this. We will have to discuss in english lol
I am more pro than con.
Carol: I believe strongly that genetic engineering is threat to me, my family and the whole world. Dave: I dont agree with you at all, I see it as a chance to do something about global problems, such as hunger. You say that it is threat, but that's not true. E.g. in the developing countries there's huge number of people who suffer from hunger. Carol: May i point out here, that we're discussing genetic engineering here, not hunger? I think you are getting a bit sidetracked Dave: Let me continue, will you? Carol: By all means. Please. Dave: genetic engineering can help the poor and the hungry to produce more food. Carol: how, for example? Dave: for example, if nasty virus hits the corps, the poor farmers lose everything. Genetically modified corps are immune to viruses. So, if the viruses can't damage the corps, there will be more food for the poor to eat and sell. Carol: As wonderful it sounds, it's not true. You say genetically modified crops are immune to viruses. Well, they are not immune to all the different viruses. So, some viruses can still damage the corps. there's also another problem. Modified crops are too expensive, so poor people cannot afford to buy them. The biggest cause for hunger is poverty, and that's why genetic engineering cannot help poor people. Genetic engineering will only cause problems and it is a threat to biodiversity too.

| I want to be in that English class.
As for the issue of cost, as GM products becomes a more competitive industry, prices will eventually fall. |

That's actually true.

Or we could just subsidize small farmers. |
