The Knights Templar, no matter how you look at them, became a banking and trade group. Now, when they were ejected from Jerusalem, they lost a lot of trade and wealth from the Silk Road. Looking for a new way to increase the cash (Since most of Turkey was overran by Turkish bands of warriors), the Templar's already in England decide to sail following the old viking sagas. They land, they explore, and sail back. Nothing more. No fucking arks, no fucking grails, just an expedition.

Problem is, no one beileves the Vikings, and it's the Dark Ages (crappy european ships, not counting the Vikings) also why would they be so desperate to beileve what was then a Fairy Tale.

Money. The Templar was only disbanded on the grounds they were too powerful. And cogs could of easily of made that journey.

I'm not so sure. But assuming they beileved them enough and money was a drive, how do they get there? The skills of Navigation are crappy, we don't have any maps, charts, Gyroscopes or Astrolabes. The only knowledge of the world we have is a hunch from the Greeks and Romans, and Europeans don't have experiance with Arctic, and northern oceans like the Vikings had.

You know, that theory works with Columbus. People knew the world was round, and people knew of Iceland, so they could of done the same principal of reach the East.

Fundings
Better crew
Better equipment
Much of a better chance
More of a practical means of even beileving it existed.

The Voyage of the Templars is believed to of taken place after Marco Polos travels. They would of been excited to extend trade to there. The ships, yes, funding, possibly. The Templars were rich bitches. Crew, possibly. Equipment: If the Vikings can do it with fucking square sails and oars, so can a cog.
